I have played Ringette in Caledonia ever since I was little. I love everything about the game and the association we have here in our small town. Some of my greatest friendships were developed in Ringette.
Four years ago while I was still in school for Graphic Design, I was approached about doing the Ringette team and individual photos for the association. Of course I couldn’t say no! My love for design, photography and Ringette all put together in one big project ?! I also saw it as a great opportunity and something that would look good on a resume.
This year I was asked to do the photos for the fourth time. Each year the pictures get better and better as I improve and learn new skills to help make me work more efficiently to create better results.
These photos have evolved over the years. The first year that I did the photos, the photos were taken on the ice and each player received a layout similar to the photo above with their individual picture, as well as a picture of their whole team. From there different packages were developed for the following years. Players were given the choice of just ordering the team and individual layout photo, or choosing from different packages that included trading cards, 4×6 and 5×7 individual photos. The second year the photos were taken in front of a backdrop, and then returned to the ice for the third year.
This year I purchased my own backdrop and stands and borrowed a large circular external flash. Over the years I have learned that taking the photos off ice is a lot more organized and a much faster process! In my opinion, the pictures this year tuned out the best I have ever done! This year, I also took more individual photos than I have in the past. The 2014/2015 season included 8 teams all together from Bunny division right up to Tween. This years package add-ons included 16×20 posters, key chains, trading cards and additional 4×6 and 5x7s of the individual photos.
Doing the photos is a HUGE job and seems to get bigger every year, but it is so worth it to me and I enjoy it more and more each year. It is such a rewarding feeling each year as I finish the photos and hand them off to the teams. I hope I am given the opportunity to continue with this job in the years to come!
